If your belt is too tight it will bind. Raise the back wheel off the floor and spin it by hand. Loosen the belt a little and see if it spins easier. When you can't gain any by loosening it any more you've got it just right. My belt "flexes" a little over 1/2 inch, more than the manual says it should but there is no excess wear and the performance is good. Works on HD's too.
